It seems Klimt's work is still selling for staggering prices these days. His portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer II was auctioned for $88 million yesterday. In addition to the Bloch-Bauer portrait, three other paintings sold for princely sums. Birch Forest went for $40.3m, Houses at Unterach on the Attersee fetched nearly $31.4m and Apple Tree I sold for $33m. That's a total of $192.7 million for four Klimt paintings. And in June, his portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I sold for a whopping $135m. Doesn't sound like his work will be fading any time soon.
Klimt's work--- while risque and controversial at the time--- fades.
