If we look up the word sin on biblehub [1] we find that the Greek word translated to the English word sin is ἁμάρτημα (hamártēma), the verb form is hamartanó in its original meaning "to miss the mark". It is an archery term. So to sin is to fall short in some way. This is different from great evil. That it is in our nature to be sinful, to repeatedly fall short in some way or another, does not entail that it is in our nature to be evil.
If you read the book of Romans you’ll realize that man is sinful. Every single person can relate to Romans chapter 7 verse 18.

Man is inherently evil With about 1300 people being murdered every day. That is 4,748,250 Live in 10 years not including abortion. But could you imagine if none of those killers we’re behind bars we would have 4,748,250 People living among us.
