@suzianne saidWomen do not need husbands today to lead fulfilling lives.
Given his misogyny, the idea that Paul's advice is poignant for women of today is laughable.
In the time of his writing, women were third-class citizens. Compared to their husbands, they had few to no rights. Women do not need husbands today to lead fulfilling lives.
Very true; and, thank God for that.

It was this way all throughout the Roman Empire and beyond. However, A woman who had Roman Citizenship could still make it on her own as today. Color of skin or nationality did not matter in the Roman Empire either; all with Roman citizenship had the same rights; as today in the USA and beyond . However, it still was hard for a single woman to make it her own as today also. Same prejudices etc.
I think that you may be taking some things out of context that Paul wrote. Please share some scriptures from Paul that bother you; I would love to learn, and share my thoughts. That is only if you are comfortable doing so. I greatly understand if you do not want to here; and, we both know why.
There are some scriptures by Paul that have greatly bothered me also in the past. Learning the context of the reality that Paul faced and lived has greatly helped me over the years. However, there are still a couple scriptures that he wrote that I find somewhat hard to swallow.
God Bless
@eladar saidYou make absolutely no sense to me here; and, you are just trying to find something to argue about. The Bible tells us not to get into such fruitless squabbles; especially when one does not even know what they are squabbling about. The Bible also says to steer clear of people like you (division maker; just as rajk666). Good day... 🙂
You said Paul was writing about s time of double standard. The double standard was not Paul's but in reaction to the double standard of the day.
The double standard does not exist today, so no longer applies.
@kingdavid403 saidYou are the one that said the double standard was about the culture of the time.

Did you not?
@kingdavid403 saidPauls writings about women dont bother men. You are a woman, pretending to be a man. That explains alot about your irrational and emotional outbursts.

Come on over anytime and we can discuss that. Better yet, since I'm a woman, you can try to have sex with me and see what happens. 🙂 I'm told that I do have a nice butt. 😉
your irrational and emotional outbursts.
LOL... Good one lying loser; good one... LOL... Typical phony Christian, always pointing their finger at someone else for the exact same thing that they do themselves.
I bet you vote republican also don't you? lol...
Lean some punctuation boy; taking third grade over again might be a start for you.
@kingdavid403 saidI rest my case.

Looks like neither you nor Raj are interesting in defending your comments. You make a good pair.
@eladar saidI've said before "evidently" , that you come on here looking for trouble.
1 Corinthians 7

Evidently a Christian woman is not allowed to leave a husband who is not a Christian, but can leave a Christian husband.
A Christian husband is not allowed to leave a wife, Christian or not.
Why the sexist double standard?
You've launched into a subject that "evidently" you don't comprehend and hope to throw mud (again) at bible teachings.
There is "evidently" no double stand if you read it carefully and stop grasping a straws in which to try and cause mischief.
@sonship saidWhy does the Son of God need a promoter, a manager, a spokeperson, to make sure his message gets out?
@Suzianne
Paul's teaching to both men Christians and women Christians is very good.
Why are you so hard on the man whom God used to author 13 or so books of the
NT's 27 books?
Is it really still his message after all that promotion?
@kingdavid403 saidLet me answer this after I get home from work. I don't have the time or resources here to answer as I'd like.

God gave some to be channels through which He can flow to perfect the saints. These channels build and they perfect the believers (the saints) in the church to do the work of the ministry. That is to minister Christ as a living Person to the church for the building up of the Body of Christ. See Ephesians 4.
"And He Himself gave some as apostles and some as prophets and some as evangelists and some as shepherds and teachers, (v.11)
For the perfecting of the saints unto the work of the ministry, unto the building up of the Body of Christ, (v.12)
Until we all arrive at the oneness of the faith and of the full knowledge of the Son of God, at a full grown man, at the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, . . . etc. " (v.13)
Suzianne,
1.) Who gave these ones? Christ gave them.
2.) They are described as "gifts to men" (v.8)
3.) He gave some apostles, like the apostle Paul.
Thank the Lord for him. If Christ should give someone like that we
should pray for them and be thankful.
4.) Along with "sent ones" or apostles He also gave "some as prophets" and "some as evangelists" and "some as shepherds and teachers".
5.) Christ did promise that He would build the church (Matt. 16:18). He surely will. But He also employs the "gifts" which are men and women to perfect the saints to function to build up the church.
That means ALL of the saints are BUILDERS. And to perfect them to learn to BUILD are these persons given as gifts to men. "And He gave some . . . for the perfecting of the saints unto the work of the ministry, unto the building up of the Body of Christ."
They themselves do not do ALL the building work.
But they perfect the saints to be involved in doing the building work.
Such was the apostle Paul.
Some of us gladly receive his perfecting. He was a channel through which the life of Jesus could flow and the supply of grace could reach us for this enterprise of building up the Body of Christ.
