And that is where you are wrong. The Church does not have a reason for being. It just is.
As for why it exists, that is very complicated.
Most of its members would probably argue that the purpose of the Church is to cater for their spiritual well-being.
A popular belief amongst theists, Catholics included, is that it is not really important how much yo ...[text shortened]... save more souls. I think a lot of Catholics (the richer ones) would go along with that strategy.
