Most of its members would probably argue that the purpose of the Church is to cater for their spiritual well-being.
A popular belief amongst theists, Catholics included, is that it is not really important how much yo ...[text shortened]... save more souls. I think a lot of Catholics (the richer ones) would go along with that strategy.

I would agree with Scribbles. Helping the starving and destitute is a better cause than helping the abused. And if it was hush-money then Helping the starving and destitute is far far better than helping the Priests to continue molesting.
