@kellyjay saidNo, 'I' have been talking about a child's suffering this whole thread. Christians like yourself have spent most of the thread trying to divert into more general forms of suffering that can be explained away by free will or an opportunity to learn etc.
Okay we have been talking about a child suffering this whole time, NOW you are concern about indigestion, pardon me for taking you seriously.
How have you missed that? (I also used the 'indigestion' analogy before to differentiate between the suffering of an innocent and self inflicted suffering).
@ghost-of-a-duke saidDivert?

You have selective seeing!
You have still have not responded to the questions I have been asking you.
I think you prefer having the topic not the answers.
@kellyjay saidKellyJay, do you actually have your playbook open on your desk when you're using the computer to post on this forum?

@kellyjay saidPlease link to one question you think I haven't answered in relation to the topic of this thread.

As I said previously, you have pretty much ignored the main question of this thread and replaced it with an easier one that you then set about answering.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidNot question, questions and I will compile a list with page numbers for you when I have time. You may feel I have attempted to avoid your question, I feel you have been doing the same with mine.

Hopefully we are both wrong about that!
@kellyjay saidAs thread creator, I got to set the parameters. You stepped outside of them almost immediately. Again, your reasons for suffering apply more to the chap with self-inflicted indigestion than the 'innocent' as laid out in this thread.

You don't think an egoistic self-congratulation negates an altruistic act?
No, not entirely.
It exposes some imperfection, that one is not as pure as the Son of God - Jesus Christ - the PERFECT human being.
No, some boasting does not entirely render some good behavior completely worthless.
Someday, ... SOMEDAY, it may sink into you that the ONLY perfect man was Jesus.
@sonship saidTrust you to miss the irony.

As thread creator, I got to set the parameters.
Boy! Do I ever get into trouble whenever I try to set parameters on threads I start.
" He's talking to himself again, guys ! "
" Ahem. Go start a blog."
"Oh sonship, no one is reading anyway. he, he,"
Doesn't your God 'set the parameters' (in which innocent children suffer from terminal illnesses? )
@sonship saidThat's not what I asked.

Altruism is a selfless act or concern. Self-congratulation, therefore, demonstrates the act or concern was not selfless. (Hence negating the altruism).
If you are struggling with this, perhaps Matthew 6:3 is worth a read:
'But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.'
(Note the lack of 'boasting' ).
@ghost-of-a-duke saidAlright then never mind

@Ghost-of-a-Duke
Ah yes, the Atheist appeals once again to the authority of Scripture.
I think my answer is the same, although I did not know you mean of boasting OF the altruistic ACTS immediately itself. I think I thought of BOASTING in some other arena rendering the altruistic act null and void.
I don't think, then, the act of liberality is null and void entirely because one soon after boasted. You are welcomed to have a different opinion. I don't think it is an argument that is too critical.
We all MISS THE MARK.
None if us hit the Bull's Eye.
Jesus everytime hit the bull's eye. He was perfect.
If you want to win this argument, its seems not too big a deal to me at the moment.
Must run now.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidAn aside as the universe Creator, He not us sets the parameters, I’m sure that will come in many people’s future too.
