A little reddish pantry moth has been approaching me and I keep batting it away.
But what if it's my poor dear late kitty (who had reddish fur) trying to get close to me and tell me that she forgives me for signing her death warrant two-and-a-half years ago?
It would be horrible to find out later (after I croak) that that really was the case.
My poor kitty! I'm sorry!
@moonbus saidSo what if they do? What does that even mean?
@Kevin-Eleven
Jainists hold that all life is sacred, even mosquitoes and plants.
I'm still missing my kitty and wondering if a reddish moth might be her revenant, and you trot out Jainism without actually being a Jainist (afaik)?

@kevin-eleven saidAll right, let's try this again. What if the little red pantry moth is your former kitty trying to get close to you again? What if the ants under your cupboard are your former kitties from all your former lives trying to partake of a little bit of your largess in this life? What if the pot plant in your living room is the kitty from a former life in which you were that kitty's mother and cared for her? What would be a logical conclusion? Follow the thought whither it leads: that all life is sacred. Jainism.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidWell, that's one model.
There is no memory between incarnations.
(I tried to come up with something involving the SPR, bell jars, and magnetic coils, but nothing worth posting came into view.)
@moonbus saidThank you. I did at least change to just trying to shoo the moth away without making physical contact, as well as offering the top of my head in greeting, which a cat would appreciate.

@kevin-eleven saidWorthy of respect and to be treated with reverence. Not to be confused with “worship.”
"Sacred" meaning what?

@ghost-of-a-duke saidOut of curiosity in the biological world people credit evolution and natural selection
There is no memory between incarnations.
for change, in this belief system, what/who gets credit for this magical train ride of
living life over and over again with the rules in place on why and how? I'm not
trying to trick or set up, I've never given this an ounce of thought to look into it.
