Beware of false advertising. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil really was a tree of death. It was a thrust to be independent from God as the source of life. The result could only be sin and death.
Every life is dependent. It was only truth that the created man also, could not be but dying if he sought, like Satan, to be independent from his Creator.

And every moment of his torment will be another moment of rejoicing in God's eternal purpose to us who have been saved and brought back to God, to the Father, the Divine Person and eternal life.

Why would God [not Zues] create man in His image and in His own likeness uniquely if He did not do so for one animal ?
Why would God [not Zues] have Adam alone name all the animals, saying whatever he called them, that is what they were ?
Genesis does not at all present man as wholly the same as animals.
Nor does it present man as wholly unlike them.
There is a connection, yet there is a unique distinction.
Man is connected to all other creatures yet at the top of the pinnacle and ALONE involving God saying -
" ... Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness ..." (Gen 1:26)
To no other creature created on earth did God assign the deputy authority to have dominion over all God's creation.

God made man in His image; among other 'ins' was the 'in' of free will.
Man was given free will to choose between two systems: the one he was created into, Life, and the one he was tricked/pussy-whipped into, the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Two different systems.
Prior to making the conscious decision for the latter, he and the woman spent every day for an undetermined amount of time enjoying the company of one another, of God and of all the bounty of the rest of the Garden.
Paradise.
Had free will from the moment the first breath was drawn until the day he took his last breath on the planet.
In between, he gave up Paradise in order to enter the system labeled the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Not once did he lose his free will.
While in Paradise, there was no "Good and Evil," there was simply "Life."
It was (as the hip urbane urban hipsters say) 'all good.'
What Satan offered was not an offer, but rather, a swap: leave God's system and have your eyes opened to this crazy cool system, one in which you will see things God doesn't want you to see

In the beginning of man's life on earth a speaking serpent enticed man to revolt against God.
In the last of days a speaking IDOL of some kind will do the enticing.

From a talking "subtle" serpent in the beginning to a talking image idol of some kind, the voice of Satan leads to damnation.
