love trumps kindness and empathy
you can be empathetic and not show kindness or love.
you can be kind but not show love (as in kindly enabling someone to hurt themselves or others)

On a large societal scale. If we have a population with out empathy then we have a population of psychopaths. It would be a terrible dangerous place to live.

There's truth in that observation. 'Love' is a niche market. I love very few people on this planet, while I show empathy to a great many. In that sense, I am defined more by empathy than I am by love.
Kindness is what makes us.
I know many men who are not comfortable with 'feelings' or emotions. They tend to think love is sexual only, but again, that's only part of love.

A world without love IS a world without empathy.

Originally posted by @stellspalfieLove for your neighbor, love for the common man, the love shown by the Good Samaritan. Caring what happens to a man, simply because he is a man, a human being, in the same lifeboat as us.
Could you define 'Jesus Love' for me, it appears we are talking about very different things.
This is similar to the all-inclusive, unconditional love that we feel for ourselves.
This is what Jesus was talking about when he commanded us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. We normally do not 'fall in love with' ourselves, nor is this self-love sexual in nature. This love is an umbrella under which kindness and empathy are found.
Originally posted by @suzianneLove doesn't always encompass empathy or enable someone to put themselves in someone else's shoes.

Empathy, unlike love, is based on 'understanding' and is, therefore, a far more powerful motivator to help those in need. It leads us to show pity and compassion, just like the Good Samaritan.
'But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.'
