An atheist was seated next to a little girl on an airplane and he turned
to her and said, "Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike
up a conversation with your fellow passenger."

The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total
... stranger, "What would you want to talk about?"

"Oh, I don't know," said the atheist. "How about why there is no God,
or no Heaven or Hell, or no life after death?" as he smiled smugly.

"Okay," she said "Those could be interesting topics but let me ask
you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same
stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns
out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?"

The atheist, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence,
thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea."

To which the little girl replies, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss
God, Heaven and Hell, or life after death, when you don't know sh##?"

And then she went back to reading her book.

I'd call it type 8 on this list:

http://www.match.com/magazine/article/12400/the-10-different-types-of-humor/

"8. Jokes at others’ expense
You don’t have a problem making fun of other people. In fact, it’s the way you’re most likely to make a joke. Ridicule, teasing, and sarcasm can be aggressive and downright mean, and following up such statements with “just kidding” doesn’t dull the sting. Be careful! This is a tough type of humor for most people to relate to, especially when it’s your go-to method of cracking a joke. Maybe you can dig deep and find a way to be funny that isn’t done at someone else’s expense? "

I know a guy like that - complete pain. He would say the nastiest things and then say "just joking" (as if if you cant take a joke your an idiot).
When he carries on like that all day you really get a sense of some inferiority complex driving his idiocy.

That article writer must not have worked in a group of all-guys before. If they did, they probably did not last long.

The list of types of humor was from a dating site so it's for people who want to make a good first impression. We are well beyond that stage here.

Yes, I prefer hearing "Bless their heart" when really mean things are said.
It is a common practice that has been around forever, I agree its does
nothing to take away the meanness of the comment.

I'm not one of those guys who does that but anyway... Somebody asked where's the humor and I found the closest fit i could. It's that kind of humor, no reason to think otherwise. Polish jokes, gay jokes, it's part of being human to make fun of people in other groups. Pointing out the obvious isn't popping an artery.
