Despite his education, expertise and knowledge ~ not to mention his field of research ~ surely he is no more or less able to speculate accurately about the existence of a god or gods - or "God", if you prefer - than any of us here, right?
I used to think like that, but then you realise with the same logic you cannot say
"there are no unicorns" or "there is no FSM" because we can never know what does not exist.

So for all practicality I prefer to say "There are no unicorns, there are no gods" while
still acknowledging that on some far distant planet there may be horses with horns.
