@secondson saidHey, me too!
I know, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that everything was created by God from nothing, and I know it not by logic, but by faith.

@fmf saidThat's just your perspective and opinion.
Human beings have all manner of god figures and have had them all over the world and all down through history. The one in the Bible is just one of them.
The fact remains that the Bible speaks of only one true God. The God and father of all His children.
It matters not that "human beings" have "all manner of god figures" "all over the world".
Your efforts to minimize the God of the Bible and make Him like all other gods is disingenuous to the text of scripture. According to the Bible there is no comparison.
The God of the Bible is clearly exclusive. All you can do is ignore it and minimize the extent to which the Word of God goes in emphasizing that fact.
What it boils down to is that your argument is not with me, but with the scriptures. If you deny the content, and what the Bible actually says with regards to this point of contention, then you're just being intellectually silly.
If you want to have your opinion, then fine, but you can't change what the Bible says.
@secondson saidSharing our perspectives and opinions: that's all that's going on here. That's what this forum is for.
That's just your perspective and opinion.

@secondson saidBut I am not a Christian, SecondSon. So my use of the word "god figure", from my perspective, is totally appropriate and clear. I do not subscribe to "the text of scripture", so I am not being "disingenuous" about my beliefs regarding that text and what it depicts. You don't use the word "disingenuous" correctly.

Wow! A hopeful post. Stay on track. Just sayin.

@secondson saidSomething from nothing is not going to happen, there would be no reason, cause,
@kellyjay said
Logically speaking: Nothing is the only thing that can come from nothing.
@wolfgang59 said
That is not Logic.
We do not know that.
Whether we know that or not it's not logical to think that "nothing" can, or does, come from "nothing".
Seems there must be a higher logic that explains how "something" exists from "nothing". Assuming i ...[text shortened]... nt creator destroys logic altogether. The idea doesn't fit with any human contrived model of logic.
or effect that would drive it since there is nothing there. If there is a cause for this
universe it has to come from something other than itself, evolution doesn't enter
into the picture since for evolution to occur, there must be something there to
evolve, and since the starting point is nothing it isn't going to occur.

@secondson saidThe Bible is where you get your god figure from. The Jews get their god figure from the Torah. Different religions have different scriptures and hence different god figures.
What it boils down to is that your argument is not with me, but with the scriptures. If you deny the content, and what the Bible actually says with regards to this point of contention, then you're just being intellectually silly.

@fmf saidHey! I'm not insulted, but when you use the term "god figure" in reality it's an affront to God.
"God figure" is a neutral term. It also refers accurately, to my way of thinking, to the subject of religiosity. You ought not to feel insulted.
I know you don't think so, but according to God it is. God knows your motive, and I believe your motive, based on your posting history, is to diminish and minimize the Christian faith.

@secondson saidIt absolutely does matter that human beings have all manner of god figures all over the world if the issue being discussed is why a non-believer/non-theist would use the term "god figure".

@fmf saidYou can call God "it" or whatever you please, but one day you will call Him Lord, on your knees. I just hope and pray it won't be too late.
It doesn't much matter what names you give to your god figure. It's OK by me if you want to call it "Father God", but I'm not going to.
Says as much in the Bible.

@secondson saidThere have been thousands of god figures, down through the ages. If the Christian faith gives you solace and purpose and helps you do morally sound things, then all well and good.

@secondson saidIf you want to recite prayers for me and hope for certain outcomes are things you want to do, that's fine by me. It's your prerogative.
