Have you watched the documentary "Deliver Us from Evil"? Or at least read the link to the review I posted earlier?
From the review:
"Two grown victims attempt at one point to go to the Vatican to ask for an audience, but they are turned away. That rejection, once again, by an institution where they so desperately need inclusion, is a sad statement ab ...[text shortened]... ps it will help you to better empathize with the plight of the victims and their families.

"It seems you are more than content for the Pope to continue to in effect say, 'Not my problem. I'm not legally obligated to take responsibility. Talk to someone who cares.'"
The actions/inactions of the Pope demonstrates a lack of empathy. If the Pope truly had empathy he would everything in his power to make restitution. To set things right as best he can. For you to be content with the Pope shows a lack of empathy on your part. Perhaps you are naive, but being "familiar with the claims in the documentary" is not at all the same as seeing/feeling the pain of the victims and their families. Perhaps it will help you to gain a sense of urgency for making willing restitution.
This isn't about a "rhetorical tool". It goes to the heart of the matter. Your attempt to dismiss it as such is a rationalization on your part.

you know i was searching for this yesterday for it was reported in all the American papers but could not find it in the European ones. The scale of the abuse is truly horrendous.
