If you cannot put him/her in a jar would you conclude that he/she is not real? How about emotions such as love and joy? Can you put them in a jar? Are feelings real?
2. Good question. Feelings are produced effects, much like colours, and are necessarily relational. So, they do not exist on their own, and cannot be said to exist in the following sense:
"Real. Philos. Having an existence in fact and not merely in appearance, thought, or language; having an absolute and necessary, not merely a contingent, existence."
If I say "I am in love with dj2becker", I am describing the emotional effect produced on myself by the fact of his existence, but this effect is contingent on other factors, such as his being so damn sexy.

Of course what you see is the smoke particles only but that allows you to 'observe' the movement of the air.
