Few people flip burgers their entire lives. People move from job to job every few years.
Anyway, in such a society of geniuses, being a burger flipper would be an amazing discipline. Burger flippers would need to study the physics of the burger flip, which might require advance math, and would need to be able to make a burger from the original co ...[text shortened]... e butchers, chefs, machinists (make their own grinders probably or at least do maintainance)...
It seems to me that individuals who are gifted extensivly in one area such as a mind for science they are woefully lacking in other areas in general. For example, how many people have we met who were extermely intelligent yet have no "common sense"? I say that diversity is a strength rather than a weakness in terms of "intelligence". There is a distinct disadvantage in having everyone think the same way. How boring and benign such a world would be.

Originally posted by AThousandYoungi really don't think all this follows. just because everyone is a genius doesn't change economic realities. the division of labour would still make sense: butchers would butcher, machinists would machine, flippers would flip, and so on - and write existential novels in their time off. And while burger flippers could study the physics of the burger flip if they wished, they wouldn't need to in order to perform their function, and would most likely derive greater intellectual satisfaction from pursuits unrelated to their work.

Evolutionary theory, which most rational adults acknowledge, shows that intelligence can increase pretty much across the board.

What I was calling "machinists" would be machinists of early 21st century quality.
A genius machinist would be another thing entirely. He wouldn't be as specialized in burger grinders as the burger maker. He'd have a much wider range.
The point is, as general intelligence increases, the value of an individual's work grows. He can do more in the same time with the same energy.
Now, of course, you're describing a genius writer who happens to have a job as a burger flipper. In a society of geniuses the genius economists, publishers, etc would quickly snap up this fellow and the genius public would quickly realize the quality of his work. He wouldn't have to burger flip.
In any case, while he was on the job, he'd be doing all the things I mentioned. He'd be writing in his off time.
Since we'd have such productivity, even burger flippers would live in luxury like the wealthy people today do.
Overpopulation would become a problem, but this species of geniuses would quickly realize how to deal with it.

That's not true. Dumb people are more likely to "choose God".
Also, I think it a bit arrogant that my belief is the "intelligent" belief. Everyone else is stupid.
Originally posted by AThousandYoungNo studies, rather, merely personal observation. I have met many proclaimed "brilliant" people who have blatant flaws whether they be a lack of common sense or are socially retarted etc, etc.

i am talking about intelligence, strictly; nothing else, just the intelligence to understand things around them whether their surroundings are worse than others or not
