are arsenal REAL title contenders? no doubt they play attractive football and zip the ball around nicely, i doubt they have the stength in depth which is required to maintain the pace, also they look vulnerable at the back with the tempremental gallas,as for their attack bentdner looks a little weak up front with adebayor, so i ask the question are arsenal really title contenders or are they just a 4-5th placed team? opinions.........
As a follower of the team for close to twenty years, it pains me to say this. But no, this iteration of the Gunners are not legitimate title contenders. For all of their talent and panache, the results speak for themselves:
Loss to Fulham (inexcusable)
Draw with Sunderland (that required last minute heroics from Fabregas)
Loss to Hull (no slight meant to the Tigers, but Chelsea handled them easily)
Draw with Spurs (when leading by two with little time to play)
Loss to Stoke (that's two losses to newly promoted teams)
Entertaining and artistic as they are, this team lacks something that makes champions. Call it heart, call it character, call it leadership; whatever it is, teams like Chelsea and Man U possess. This current Gunners team does not.
Originally posted by mr carlsbergI think the talk of the 'Big 4' stems more from the dominance of Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool, and Arsenal in the CL places than in the actual title chase. In spite of Arsenal not being being title contenders this year (or Liverpool not being strong contenders in the last couple of years), the talk of the Big 4 is still valid, Fergie's current enchantment with Villa aside.
so why the continual talk of "the big 4"? should it not be "the big 3"....
Yeah the "big 4" is down to how well all 4 teams have done in the CL in recent years. For all city's money theirs still a huge gap between these 4 and the rest of the premiership!
One thing Arsenal lack is the ability to play badly and still win, something you'll see Man U and Chelsea doing quite often this season!
