Welker ...[text shortened]... on bonehead Pats plays than on their own prowess. Pats thought they could win on mystique alone!
If Manning had the Bellichik defenses of the mid 2000s, he'd have 8 Lombardi trophies up on the shelf.

Okay, slight exaggeration. Maybe only 5.

Maybe. He did not have a D that was that bad either. Simply got outplayed by a then better QB. As for your assertion re number of trophies, pure speculation. If Monatana had had a running game he would have won every year. If Michelangelo had learned music he might have outshone all the other music greats! Pure speculation. If Favre had not gone up against the Broncos he might have won three in a row! If the Cowboys had had Jim Brown instead of emmitt Smith they would have ben unstoppable.

Roger Craig was great as a runner and a receiver. Jerry Rice was the best receiver who ever lived. Ronnie Lott is a Hall of Famer. There was no salary cap. You kept your players forever and the 49ers were stacked. They had a back up QB who is a hall of famer.
thanks, i was trying to remember the running back and receiver montana had. I thought it might have been rice, but i couldn't remember if he played for montana or elway. I'm 19, and obviously wasn't around to know the exact names other than that montana had lots of help.

Jim Brown was the best RB to ever play the game, not Emmit Smith. Emmit ran for more total yards, but just look at the yard per carry avg of Brown. That is the one record that will never be broken in football other then perhaps Favre's number of starts.

if im making a team for a single exhibition game, id take brown. if im building a franchise id take smith. their had very different running styles. emmitt's was more condusive to a longer career. in their own way, they are sort of tied for best.

How little you know about Jim Brown. He retired in his prime, not because of injury. If you are unwilling to build a franchise around probably the greatest football player who ever played the game then perhaps you need to revise your football knowledge. My dream team would feature Brown at RB, Montana at QB, Jerry Rice at WR, Jumbo Elliot types at OL, John Riggins as backup RB, Kellen Winslow at TE, BobHayes at WR; my backup at QB would be Johnny Unitas or Steve Young. Manning would not make the team. He's very good, but no Steve Young and certainly no Montana. My D would be the entire 70's Steeler D with Bob Lilly and Strahan as backups and Jack Tatum and Deion Sanders as backup CB's. Charlie Waters and Cliff Harris as safeties.

Interesting.

I became a fan in about 1985. So, of the players that I've seen, my all star team is:

QB- Manning

RB- Barry Sanders
RB- Marshall Faulk (for the second RB, I want a guy who's a good receiver too)

TE- Antonio Gates

WR- Jerry Rice
WR- Steve Largent

OL- Antony Munoz, Willie Roaf and guys like that

CB- Deion Sanders and Darelle Revis (hey, cut me a break here; I'm entitled to one homer pick)

Safeties: Troy Polamalu and Ronnie Lott

NT- Joe Klecko (okay, two)

DT- Reggie White, Bruce Smith and maybe Freeny (Strahan was overrated)

LB- Junior Seau, Lawrence Taylor, Ray Lewis and I dunno, maybe Sean Merriman?

Punter- Ray Guy

Kicker- Adam Vinateirri

Special Teams- Steve Tasker

I think you should add Darrell Green from Washington to that list of CB's. He ran everyone down..
Dont forget the "Minister of Defense" for the Bears....Middle LB Mike Singletary. Those eyes shook you up even before he hit you.

Green's a good one.

I thought about Singletary. Maybe over Seau; but not over Lewis.

I think Singletary was a little more adept at reading offenses then Lewis is. That's the only reason I would give him the nod.

as for the RB, one of your selections has to be a bruiser that can hit the middle...might I suggest the late Walter Payton?
