The post that was quoted here has been removedFor most people it's about 1970s, when they had a great team and yet tried to kick, punch, cheat and intimidate their way to titles. Their fans didn't have the best of reputations, either.
I wasn't old enough to watch football in the seventies, so any negative feelings I have are a combination of a) indoctrination by my family and friends, b) a continuing arrogance among certain Leeds fans.
I don't really care for Leeds, but I don't really care about them either. As a Derby fan, though, I never tire of telling the story of Seth Johnson signing for your lot... and will look forward to relegating you on the last day of the season.
The post that was quoted here has been removedYou know the story, right? Seth Johnson and his agent are preparing for contract negotiations with the Leeds chairman. The agent says to Seth: "Look, Leeds are throwing money around. I reckon we can get £25k a year if we play this right. We should hold out if he tries to offer any less than £20k."
So they go into the office and straight away the chairman says: "Look, gentlemen, I'm not going to waste your time. I can't go a penny over £35k."
Without missing a beat Seth's agent says: "We won't take less than £40k..."
Ends up signing on for £38k a year.
...
Anyway, he's back Derby now, getting the odd game. And not, to my knowledge, on £38k.
Incidentally clubs like mine weren't "jealous" of Leeds; we won the title twice in the 1970s despite the antics of your lot.
