Suzi, as a retired widower, Red Hot Pawn and its General Forum have meant a great deal to me since July, 2007. This honest initiative is being taken in response to darvlay's direct appeal to Russ in his General Forum Thread 158961 "Any Android client users?" How about you make this general forum better and bring back sports, culture and whatever else has been unnecessarily expunged from this now vacuous hellhole? on April 24, 2014. I hope you'll support the effort. Thanks.

cash, when is the Texas Rangers next game?[/b]
Unfortunately they have already lost their next game and lost against Seattle Mariners late last night, went to bed early. But are scheduled to play again 8:00 PM central standard time. 9:00 PM your time Bob.

The Oakland A's won their game, so the Rangers were set back a game.

Are you a sports fan of any kind Susan? Tennis maybe? I can't recall? I can't imagine you not being supportive of a little fun.

Do you really think talking about sports here will kill this forum? . No one seems to be talking about it there so why not talk about it here? You might have a point but please explain if you will.

No, I won't.

Darvlay is wrong, it won't make the General Forum any better.

Those other topics were taken out of the General Forum into their own forum for a reason.

There is a forum for that.

That's all there is to say.

I support the NBA and the NFL. I've been known to go to NHL games.

Sports has its own forum.

It has no place here.

It was actually on the request of Noodles and such like that there was a seperate sports forum created. They didn't want to be be dragged down with the banality of it all in their beloved GF. They had so much more to talk about.

Is Sicilian Sausage's comment accurate? If so does the rationale of these high profile contributors apply in their absence?

Supergirl is probably correct. If something is lacking in this little community of ours (questionable) it is not a lack of football talk (COYS!).

Our favorite posters (you know who you are) want to share a bit about themselves - maybe a humorous anecdote or a comment that seems to them to match the pattern of an active thread. There is a human instinct to connect, as the one thing we all have in common is loneliness.

For others though it is all about me. Me me me! Look what I found! Look at what I think! Look at me!

Susan you are of course entitled to your opinion even more so than myself. And I am not trying to turn this into a debate. I just want to remind you that the sports forums along with the others at one time did not exist. And I agree separating the forums did serve a purpose. It helped to organize a cluttered general forum. It also helped to separate many unnecessary arguments.I believe I supported that change. However we had a lot more active posters then. After coming back after several years absence, one of the first things I noticed was the inactivity in almost all the forums. In the very least it might be a good idea to combine a few of the least active forums until we can get more interested and active posters returning. Laws and rules get changed every day in this world some good and some bad, but let's experiment you may be right. It might not work. But it might. Doing something usually beats doing nothing. I understand resistance to change. Could we agree to at least try in this thread? I can agree that spirituality and debates might be a little too aggressive for general forum. And if ever in Phoenix it would be a pleasure to escort you to one of those sports games.

So we are discussing ideas in this thread- check

We are discussing events in this thread - check

We are discussing people in this thread- check

Meaning we want to be inclusive and non discriminatory. I see no problem with that.

For clarification aren't the words I placed in bold from your post the same people?

This is not the way to "solve" the "problem", even IF a "problem" exists.

Less posting is a temporary thing. It should still have a structure that people understand.

There has been an undercurrent of folks lately wanting to crap all over the General Forum, whether to show their superiority or just to jump on the bandwagon, I don't know. I just know that I find it suspicious that some people would orchestrate a campaign to point out "problems" in the General Forum and to "dumb it down" as a way to push people towards their Club with its private forum, presumably with the promise of "more intelligent" talk. That's just mealy-mouthed and dangerous and some people have found the promise lacking and have come back to the GF time and again. Clubs were made as an effort to get some who have similar focused interests together to discuss those interests, not to draw people away from the General Forum, but alas, some people have tried to use them to that effect so they can shine their spotlight even brighter on themselves.

Those who deserve a spotlight can find it in the General Forum, at least for a little while, since fame can be fleeting, but that's as it should be too. Give others a chance. Give everyone who wants to post their 15 seconds to tell everyone else their opinion. This variety is what makes the General Forum. In times past the General Forum has been very busy with just a handful of voices who were quite loud and full of themselves, drowning out other individual voices who weren't as persistent. More posts make people think there are more people involved, but this wasn't true. Some people then were more prolific, that's all. And if you were more prolific AND more abrasive than your neighbor, guess who got the attention? This is the history we have to overcome now in the General Forum.

First I think it is a travesty that this thread about what is or isn't appropriate in the General Forum gets moved to another forum. This thread is not about sports - it is about Red Hot Pawn and how we enjoy and utilize the forums. Some forum moderator needs a one week ban from touching stuff. Let it alone and let it play out Spanky.

To answer your question, I probably did not make my point very elegantly.

Yes we are discussing events and people, but mostly this thread is discussing them in the context of our ideas and that is what makes it interesting. Your ideas and Supergirl's ideas are both interesting. Both are clearly presented in a way to improve our community. It is not just drivel, hey I need some need attention so I came here. Look at me! I am a goof!

Some people say adding sports and other subjects back into the GF would improve it. I don't disagree with that (would love to be at Anfield this morning). My point was that if there is a problem with the GF it is not the subject matter.

If there is a problem maybe it is some people not willing to take a little risk and share themselves and their ideas. There are a lot of smart people here - I would love to hear what they are thinking about today.

You and Supergirl are what make this work because you let people know what you think. The GF needs more threads like this one and more posters like the both of you.
