The Reds are taking on water rather quickly. Typically, they can't buy a win in Clevland and lost to the Twins tonight as they continue to struggle against American League opponents.
They were 6-6 against the AL starting this series. When we win the next two, we'll wind up with a winning record against the AL.

Why do you even bother to follow the team? Last I looked they are in first place. Your constant idiotic negativity is sickening.

You have been following this team for how long? I have been subjected to decades of abuse so I have earned the right. It's like watching the sun rise every day. After a while, you just begin to expect it.

I suppose we look upon criticism differently. Only those that care about the team would be critical of it. Everyone else could not be happier.

Chapman gives up yet another save. That is what happens when you rely exclusively on a 100 mph fast ball.

They really don't have any other closers. I just wonder if they can teach him to pitch again while already half way through the year.

A very disappointing loss after Leake's fine start, JV's dramatic 8 inning HR and a couple of brilliant plays in the field by BP.

Mauer had a good 9 pitch at bat, but Chapman couldn't throw his slider for a strike again, fell behind Willingham 3-1 and threw one right over the middle.

I think it would make sense to go back to Marshall who had pitched well lately. Since a bad outing against the Yankees on My 19th, he's pitched 13.1 innings, allowed only 1 run, 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 14. The way Chapman was pitching you can't blame Dusty for moving him into the closer spot, but right now it looks like the batters are catching up to him (as the do to any pitcher who constantly falls behind in the count).

I disagree. Chapman is the best talent out there. All he needs is to learn how to pitch better. Give him one pitch, other than a fast ball, and he becomes unhittable again. To hit his fast ball throwing at 100+ mph you then have to commit to guessing if you want to hit it.

Tonight he was actually able to throw a slider and had another save. He then did a paculiar sumersalt when wallking off the mound. I guess he needed that to get the monkey off his back.

Who would have thought Bronson Arroyo would take a no-hitter to the 8th? Dusty stayed with him one batter too long. Quite a blast by Stubbs to break the tie.

Speaking of best hitter in baseball, let's talk about best over-all player for a second.

Is it time to start discussing Robinson Cano in that mix?

He leads the league in offensive WAR this year. He has 20 home runs and a .591 SLG%. He also plays a key defensive position and has led the league in assists 3 of the last 4 years and league the league in range factor last year.

If you were starting a team and had to take a guy right now for a year, is there a non-pitcher you'd take over Cano?

Cano's a fine hitter, but a below average 2B. His UZR/150 has been negative every year of his career except 2007 (http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=3269&position=2B). It's freakishly high this year, but fielding metrics are very vulnerable to small sample sizes which is what half a year of baseball is.

Personally, I'd still take Votto, a better hitter and an excellent 1B over Cano, an inferior hitter and so-so 2B.

I don't think you can take UZR and totally ignore RF. His RF has been consistently excellent and as I said, he led the league in assists in 3 of the last 4 years. His putout numbers are also good, showing that he has good range on popups.

I don't know any sabremetrician who takes RF seriously. Cano plays a lot; he played more innings at 2B than any other ALer except Dustin Pedroia. Statistically hardly any POs for 2B are on difficult popups; mostly a PO on 2B requires the skill of catching a baseball thrown to you.

Cano is, at best, an average 2B. If you want to watch a great 2B, turn on FoxOhio and take in a few games with BP.

An average second baseman is a more valuable defensive player than a good first baseman.

Votto's advantage in offense may be enough to overcome that difference, but it's an argument that could go either way, assuming Cano can keep up his current production.

They can still finish above .500 on the trip.
