Aaahh what the hell. Let the truth be told.
SA 53
Eng 12
Put that in Jonny's sock and smoke it after the game.

whatever happens in the game points-wise i reckon england for a narrow victory against good opposition.
johnny wilkinson will go in legend as the most famous sportsman on the planet. whoever plays us still thinks he will beat them. it is an amazing psychological weapon that if there is any margin for eror he will punish you. south africa are a superb team but the sheer fear about wilkinson will freeze them
swing low.... etc,...

I stopped watching the Cup halfway through the Pool games, and decided I'd just watch the Final...
what happened to the All Blacks?!?!
how'd they get knocked off?
it appears as though they really are overrated...
The French just played with more passion ... must have taken it out of them because they have been decidedly ordinary in their last two games - the Pumas playeed some great rugby this morning!
Originally posted by trevor33Yeah you were right I was having a laugh with those odds, the correct odds would be about 500/1 (bearing in mind that it's so far away from the expected lines), but 18:12 isn't and 100/1 for that would be too high I think, from my (quick) analysis below I would guess the odds for that would be about 66/1 ish. It's easy to get carried away by thinking it's too hard to predict and end up betting to no percentage.
steve is having a laugh with those odds.
to predict the correct score i'd be looking for at least 100-1
sa 18 - eng 12
As far as I know there is no betting on the correct score (too hard to call to attract a lot of interest I guess). If I was compiling the odds for that market I would base it on 2 of betfair's markets, the England +8.5 points handicap market which is more or less 50/50 and the total points market at under or over 37.5 points again close at about 47/53 that gives the fav score at about 24:14 ish to SA. But as you say calling the correct score is far from easy, I think the fav score in this market would have to start at a big price (considering it's a joint fav) at about a 50/1 quote. I haven't put a lot of thought into it, but a safety test for the compiler would be to look at what sort of value someone would get for backing say about 30 different scores and a getting a combined bet of around evens (obvioulsy not all of the 30 bets would be at 50/1, after a few favs, the odds would go up from 66/1 to 80/1 as the scores strayed slightly from the handicap and total points market).
If I had thought of it earler I would have actually bet on this, as if you get a market to yourself, that's where the real value is.

As I said to Trevor, yes I was having a laugh
Edit: It's a good idea to use this site to check odds, as it compares most of the leading bookmakers in one place rather than having to look at a number of different sites, it can be slightly out of date though at times.

anyway I predict 0-0 bore draw, settled by penalty kicks 😉
Originally posted by rhbI wish the game was played during the day as my wife is away in London today, it's not really fair to try and impose a rugby match on her on a saturday night. So I'm torn between trying to avoid seeing the score and watching it tomorrow morning or make do with checking the pc every 5 mins for updates, neither is very satisfying. I think having a few extra glasses of wine and trying to forget about it might be my best tactic, then suddenly waking up tomorrow morning and remembering I have it to watch.

Problem is though that the result is likely to be dissapointing as England have really over achieved to get this far, just hope I am proved wrong! and pleasantly suprised tomorrow morning (if I can resist checking the scores tonight).
For the record my score prediction is 20-24:10-14 to SA
I predict SA will have a commanding lead at half time and then start to chuck things after that as usual. Then we'll scrape things together as everyone remembers Mandela with Pienaar's jersey on, tears will come to their eyes and they'll finally give the ball to Habana. As long as we don't throw too many punches and give away a ton of penalties it should be sewn up after 60 minutes. I would say final score of around 30-35:15-20
as much as i want a win, i dont want it to be an easy win,i want a legendary battle which will deserve the hype. at the time obviously ill be wanting to cane them but as long as we win, i think its better if its closer. and then theres hamilton tomoro if he ruins englands winning streak weekend...
