I wonder if baseball will return to some sort of normalcy now that George is gone. Will teams like the Yankees stop skyrocketing payrolls that other teams cannot keep up with?

They all have the same goal....to win the top prize?
Secondly, your argument that small market teams not being able to compete seems to be a tad off with the standings at the All Star break.
Steinbrenner had a huge ego (surprise...many owners, players, coaches do).
He had an iron will to win and a win at any cost attitude.
But, he didn't win every year...did he?
George has been running the show first hand for the last two years due to health problems, his two sons have been.

still on this?
man, you folks have absolutely no life whatsoever, huh?
I live in Jersey. There is no one...no one in the NYC metro area who liked Steinbrenner...
no one...
but, hey, troll on...

I enjoy playing online chess and posting in online forums. That's my excuse.
You evidently hate the whole idea of online forums and yet you choose to post in them. What's your excuse? I am truly sorry about your condition, but surely there are things you can do besides post in a forum you totally detest.

Originally posted by shortcircuitThe small market verses big market dilemma is what I am referring to. All I can say is we will look at the end of the year the number of winning teams and losing teams and then determine which ones are big market verses small market teams. Then we will look at wins it all at the end of the day.
Secondly, your argument that small market teams not being able to compete seems to be a tad off with the standings at the All Star break.
My guess is that there will be a handfull of small market teams who have winning seasons and a handfull of big market teams who have losing seasons, just to appease the (there is nothing to see here regarding a lack of parity in MLB) gods, while a big market team like the Yankees will win the big prize.
So just sit back and watch my prophetic predictions once again be proven correct. 😉
Originally posted by darvlayThey are in a horrible division and are much better this year due to ptiching coming together and Rolan at third as their anchor. Having said that, can they win the division? Maybe, but after that look at teams like the Phillies and Dodgers and tell me that they have a snow balls chance of going anywhere.
They should be getting Volquez back next week too! 😲
I find it hard to believe that the Reds can continue the offensive pace they have set in the first half. If they are to compete their pitching must improve.

Tampa Bay two years ago and Florida winning two world championships have proven that a small market team can beat some of the big market teams in the playoffs. It's interesting that Philly is now considered a "big market"; ten years ago they were moribund.

Of course, you don't always get what you pay for by on average you do. Its like anything else really.
It already has.
