I don't really get why Ronaldo was voted man of the match. He didn't really do anything, did he?
Very good, almost totally balanced game and quite interesting tactically as the Ivorians were so well organised that it always seemed like they had an extra man in midfield when they were out of possession. It also seemed like the Portuguese were a little bit fearful of the big African men. Should be funny to watch the little Koreans play them.
Originally posted by hopscotchThe Ivorians were going all for it and it showed as the last 30mins they tired and it was mostly Portugal on possession (apart from the final minutes). I don't think it was about organization but more lack of effort management. I can see them being dead tired against Korea if they keep this up.

Originally posted by PalynkaThat could be the case, the flooding in the midfield and the shutting down of any Portuguese advance was mostly prevalent in the first half, at which stage it appeared that if they kept it up in the 2nd then the game would be theirs.

Originally posted by clandarkfireI didn't mention goals! Both teams played with the mindset that a draw would be a satisfactory result, and were much more concerned about not conceding a goal than scoring one; as a result there were not much to defend for either team. Feisty midfield battles are important part of the modern game, and I can enjoy them, but not for almost entire 90 minutes! For me, it was dreadful.
Dreadful?
I thought it was quite good. Just because they didn't score doesn't mean they aren't any good. It's easy to score lots of goals vs a poor team, but in this game two strong teams were able to hold each other off. Drogba's move in the last minute was the only sad part I thought.
Originally posted by kes29I thought both teams were willing to get a win and were playing for it. I enjoyed it a lot, but maybe that was due to my fierce hatred for the portuguese team. I think this result makes this group even more interesting. I think in the end it will come down to: is one of these teams capable of gaining some points against a theoretically superior Brazil, or if neither do by how much they loose and by how much they win from N.Korea. It's going to be very interesting indeed.
