In each game the big guns and the 1800/1900 win all their games. The deciders will be the two games they are playing. The big gun for some reason times out and doesn't go through.
The way it is paired now, it was possible for the top 2 to meet in the first round. Infact the top 8 could of been in the same group. That is just stupid.
It's a bit like Anand and Topalov having a match to earn the right to play me for the World Championship:-)
Is that stupid or fair?
Worse still the big gun and the 1800/1900 agree draws. The big gun has decided he will go through as the 1800/1900 lost two games to a 1700 rater and he should beat him easily. Again he times out and the 1700 rater advances.
Is that stupid or fair?
An 1800/1900 player does not advance as the big guns beat him in the 1st round but was subsequently proved to be an engine user and banned.
Is that stupid or fair?

Hmm. I don't think that question deserves an answer.
Maybe have a look at any sporting event and have a think about it:-)
and what is more interesting, for a 1400 guy? to be the challenger of a 1600 or of 1900?

I suppose you could say I'll get my wish in the next round. But what about that monk fella?
