Jacob Aagaard is a Scottish-Danish chess Grandmaster, chess author, and trainer. He was born on the 31st of July, 1973 in Denmark. Aagaard has created numerous chess books and works extensively as a trainer of both amateur and professional chess players. He has also written extensively on chess tactics, openings, and endgames.
In his early chess career, Aagaard won multiple Danish Youth Championships but did not have a lot of success in international competitions. It wasn't until moving to Scotland in 2003 that Aagaard began to achieve international recognition. He became Scottish Champion in 2004 and won the British Championship in 2007.
In 2005, he was awarded the title of International Master, and by 2007, he had achieved the distinction of Grandmaster, the highest title a chess player can earn.
Aagaard is known as a solid player who often prefers positional and strategic play over tactical complications. One of his strengths is his ability to simplify complex positions and find the best plan.
Aagaard has also established himself as an acclaimed chess trainer. Among his students are three World Championship challengers.
He lives in Glasgow with his wife and children, and he is a co-owner of Quality Chess, a publishing company that produces chess books.
