Anish Giri is a Russian-born Dutch chess Grandmaster who is known as one of the leading figures in the world of chess. He was born on June 28, 1994 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He achieved the grandmaster title at the age of fourteen years and seven months in 2009.


Giri's career encompasses several significant achievements. In 2008, he won the Dutch Championship, thus becoming the youngest player ever to attain the title. He also held the record as the world's youngest Grandmaster for a period of time. In the Corus Chess Tournament of 2010, he made his name known internationally as a Grandmaster.


Giri participated in the German Bundesliga as well as several Dutch leagues, and he competed in the Tata Steel Chess tournament. He represented the Netherlands in the Chess Olympiads.


He has a strong theoretical background due to his diligent preparation before each game. His style of play tends to be solid but he can also play aggressively when necessary.


Outside of chess, Giri has interest in languages and is reported to speak six of them. He is married to Sopiko Guramishvili, a Georgian chess player and together they have a son, Daniel.
