Peter Leko is a Hungarian chess Grandmaster. He was born on 8th September 1979, in the city of Szeged. Leko became the world's youngest Grandmaster in 1994 at the age of 14 years, 4 months and 22 days.


Leko has participated in several notable chess tournaments and championships, including the 2005 World Championship, where he tied for first place with Veselin Topalov but lost the tiebreak. He became the first non-Soviet player to win the Russian Championship in 1998.


Throughout his career, Leko has shown excellent performance against some of the world's top players. Notably, this includes an eight-game match against Garry Kasparov in 2001, during which he remained undefeated.


Leko also played against World Chess Champion Vladimir Kramnik in 2004 for the Classical World Chess Championship. After an intense series of games, Leko took a one-point lead but was defeated by Kramnik in the last game.


Prior to his match with Kramnik, Leko won the 2002 Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Meeting, which was the Candidates Tournament for the Classical World Chess Championship. He defeated notable players such as Michael Adams, Veselin Topalov and Vladimir Kramnik to emerge as the winner.


In addition to his playing career, Leko has also contributed to the world of chess as a coach. He worked as a second for former World Champion Viswanathan Anand from 1995 to 2008.
