What is Pawn?
Chess Terms : Pawn Explained
A Pawn is a type of chess piece in the game of chess, symbolic of infantry soldiers. It is the most numerous piece in the game, with each player starting with eight. Pawns are also the smallest and least powerful pieces, moving only forward one square at a time, but capture diagonally. However, pawns have the potential to transform into any other chess piece, except a king, if they reach the opponent's end of the board. This ability makes them strategically important.
