What is Wing?
Chess Terms : Wing Explained
The term wing refers to the flanks of the board, particularly the 'a', 'b', 'c', and 'd' files considered as the queen's wing or queenside, and the 'e', 'f', 'g', and 'h' files considered as the king's wing or kingside. They are called so due to the initial placement of the king and queen on these sides of the board. The wings are especially important in the endgame and in strategizing pawn structure.
