Interesting alternative history story I picked up:
Ward Moore, "Bring The Jubilee".

"Hodge Backmaker lives in c20 NY ... In his world the Confederate South won its independence in the Civil War and North America is divided, with slavery and serfdom still facts of life in the Confederacy and NY a provincial backwater."

Published in the Gollancz SF Masterworks series.

Isaac Asimov's robot books, starting with The Caves of Steel. The foundation series mentioned previously is good, but I struggled with it and found it quite boring. The robot books are much more entertaining. 🙂

I read the first one and didn't think much of it. It reminded of the phrase "going nowhere fast". The book was fast paced but the storyline didn't really go anywhere.

A much better Hubbard book is "Battlefield Earth". Don't judge it by the movie.

That was one of my favorite series when I was in third grade. It was high concept too: atmosphere factories and flying cars set amid swashbuckling on the Red Planet.
