Originally posted by davanielBoy, I sure agree with the live classical music thing. I remember hearing The Miraculous Mandarin conducted by Andre Previn and it was just magical. I was as close to religious ecstasy as I ever got. That was at Wolftrap btw. We couldn't even get seats, so had to listen on a blanket on the little hill outside. Lying there listening to that concert just put me on another plane of existence.
Charge more for their concerts -> no one will be able to afford to go
Pay their musicians less -> not possible (musicians are hardly seriously paid, compared to let's say a plumber or so, and compare the amount of study and hard work needed for those two)
Someone who doesn't necessarily care about orchestral music should be forced to contribute toward tiful paintings).
Maybe you don't. In that case, welcome back to the stone age.
I also got a similar feeling listening to Eugene O'Donnel, on of the best Irish fiddlers of Airs ever, at a concert put on by Mick Maloney, I have been friends with both for decades.
At that concert, when Eugene played his airs, it seemed almost like entities were in the room drawn by the power of his playing. When he finished his tune, the audience didn't even applaud for a noticeable delay, someone whispered 'whoo'
then applause erupted from the audience.
That was in Philly btw.
Much much earlier in San diego, I had some of that kind of feeling listening to the Reverand Gary Davis when I was 18, jaw dropping impressive.
All of that from listening to LIVE music as opposed to canned.
