The post that was quoted here has been removedIf the music is any indication, I understand why it's a gigantic flop. I cannot comment on the film, since I've not seen it, however I have heard the song Memory from the 2019 production of Cats, and (maybe I'm showing my age) but it's several levels below what Barbra Streisand did in the earlier version. Below are the two. Please judge for yourself. IMHO Jennifer Hudson will never be able to compete with Barbara.

The post that was quoted here has been removedI've not seen the movie yet. I've been hammered at work with 12-hour days for weeks now. I hope to see it before they pull it from theaters here. I've seen the musical here many times, so at least I feel I'll be able to pull out the plot line that other, more self-important, critics may have missed in their hubris-filled reviews. At least maybe I'll have the theater to myself.

The post that was quoted here has been removedMy point is that the movie is clearly influenced by the musical.
Andrew Lloyd Webber adapted Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats for the stage. This is clearly the same direction the movie took.
Funny you mention the RHPS.
I must have seen that 30 times or more in person.
Fun times.
