None that I've met so far, but in the movie "the fly", grundlefly acted as if he wanted to be shot.

Unless I don't remember the movie and made that up...

But wouldn't Ivanhoe argue that Goldblum always plays the smart brainy guy who knows how to save the human race as in such movies as Jurassic Park and Independence Day. So actually Hollywood might be helping his case.
But this thread gave me some ideas to help the exchange of ideas. I will post a true situation that I am familiar with with hopes ...[text shortened]... ctions to this true account? I ask that you keep your responses brief and from your gut. Thanks
From the gut, I worry that doctors are often wrong. I hope that the woman didn't put herself through hell without at least three opinions.
Secondly, that she should choose to carry the child to birth is a true human act. The instinct to bare children is the strongest influence in all mammalian forms. It gets screwed up by reason on occasion, but it is real and strong. I can't fault her instinct.
Thirdly, what a sad thing the birth must have been, if the child was indeed born without a brain. An empty cage of bone.
Except... and this is the mystery... there are several recorded cases of people with less than half a brain who appear to be totally normal. Go figure.
Now I will read the rest of the posts.

The foetus is not suffering. And if she wants to go through with her pregnancy, and let nature takes its course, that is her choice.
What other birth defects do you propose aborting? Downs syndrome? Short sighted? Being a girl? Not pretty enough?
I didn't say I would talk her into aborting or force her to, I would just think she was an idiot.
As to other birth defects, if you are asking what my choice would, yes I would abort Down's syndrome. The others, no.

Children with Down Syndrom are also killed after they are born.

First, no they aren't. They can be, but they are often violent and anti-social.
Second, they have crap lives and so do their families.
Perhaps you've met a different kind of down symdrome person, or we're talking about two different things here.

Do you feel that Veronica's (Geena Davis) decision to put Seth Brundle
(Jeff Goldblum) out of his misery was morally justified in the remake of
the movie 'The Fly?'
Keep in mind that, at that time, Brundle was only 25% human (being
25% fly and 50% non-living 'transporter'😉.
Your thoughts, please.

Originally posted by NyxieI have known a few people with DS. I work for a charity that provides care and although I am not in the first line of care provision I have some experience with them. Most, just like normal people, are capable of happiness, love, anger, embarassment, jealousy etc. However their IQ is limited and as such, the triggers for these emotions are generally easier to set off. They are therefore more susceptible to emotional stimulus and do not react well to changes in routine or to leaving the security of what they know (in general this is, I did once meet someone with DS whose ambition it was to bungee jump, something I wouldn't do for a million quid). Just like normal people, those with DS can live happy productive lives if given the right support and care.

As to abortion, I would suggest the stress that bringing up a child with DS causes is a deciding factor, as are money and stability of circumstance. I for one would be inclined to abort, were I a woman in the situation, but I respect people's decision to decide for themselves.

Their emotional state seems to be very close to children - they can be loving to those they know well but don't seem to like those they don't know. They tend to express dislike by hitting, hair pulling, or sulking.
I've seen plenty of examples of this.
Anyway, I wasn't suggesting killing down's syndrome people, merely aborting them before they are born. I was asked what I would do. Others are free to do what they want.
