LONDON, June 9 (Reuters) - The legal age of sale for cigarettes in England should be raised by one year every year until eventually no one can buy tobacco products, a government-commissioned review said on Thursday.
Progressively increasing the minimum age from 18 was one of 15 recommendations in a review ordered by health minister Sajid Javid to help meet a target to be "smokefree" by 2030. Smokefree is defined as 5% smoking prevalence or less in England.
What the concept is (I believe New Zealand has adopted this already) is to ban anyone under the age of 15 from ever being able to buy cigarettes legally.
This in a world which has realised that legalising marijuana is a far better method of controlling the sale and criminality involved with it, than keeping it illegal.
With many countries looking into expanding this to other sorts of drugs as well.
Alcohol bans have a similar record of failing completely and increasing criminality.
Personally, I don’t think substances should be banned. Once someone is an adult it’s up to them what they do to their own bodies.
It’s the government’s responsibility to educate people and make sure that quality is good (less overdosing, etc. ) and that crime is minimalised.
Anyone agree with this sort of total ban (in the long run)?

It’s better to educate on risks and usage. Guarantee a stable quality and help people with their addictions instead of criminalizing them.
A side bonus is that you destroy crime syndicates and tackle financial problems people have in feeding their addiction (so less petty crime as well).

My take on this is that my child will have access to fentanyl. I prob wont be thinking ".....Then reward abstinence". Forgive me if I don't know what that means.

Also there are medicinal qualities in cannabis.
As with nicotine it’s the young that need protecting from its availability. There is evidence that strong skunk type plants can damage brains that are not yet fully formed.
I think both should be tightly controlled but available, I have no idea how you get around the criminal supply chain and its implications.

There are plants that are highly toxic if ingested that are legal, but they only want to ban plants that are unlikely to kill people. Totally retarded.

When plants are made illegal it is so the pharmaceutical corporations can have a monopoly growing those plants while they throw you in prison for it if you grow opium poppies. Big pharma is allowed to have an opium poppy supply for their opiate derivatives. Not you. You have to pay them for it.
Drug dealing legalized and monopolized. Just another big scam.
