Your reading comprehension needs work. I did not say "all women have been constantly raped". I said "women".

250,000 cases of rape a year according to the UN. That's many hundreds a day. Can you figure out how to fit in many hundreds of rapes in a 24 hour period and have there be any rape-free time? Unlikely.

In the UK alone there were 230 a ...[text shortened]... these days". 8 or 9 rapes would take up an hour, right? I'm not too familiar with rape.
I quibbled on 'constantly', with its overtone of (some) women being constantly raped, as though they were undergoing non-stop gang rape 24/7. Sorry if you didn't pick up on that.

You left out "throughout history". Really, there's just no way for you to prove that.

But what I really want to know is what on earth your mother being raped has to do with the question of communal ownership versus private property. What evidence is there to suggest that there was a higher incidence of rape in societies that hold things in common? I'm not saying communal ownership is better than private property; I just find your example very odd.

If my mother doesn't own her apartment, and her landlord doesn't own it, anyone can go in at any time, right? Security is impossible.

That's your overtone, not mine. You hear what you want to hear. I did pick up on it and I challenged it. I said that rape happens all the time to women. It's so frequent as to be constant if you consider women as a whole.

You're arguing from personal incredulity. Do you have reason to believe human rape habits have changed since past times?

Yes, by the way, I got about 2/3 of the way through the Fountainhead before I had to give the book back to the owner. I need to get another copy.

I just finished reading this great book by Ayn Rand, and was curious on other folk’s opinion of this book.

It seems that many countries are falling into the trap of just worrying about serving peoples needs, at the cost of burdening or destroying the industrial strength that keeps a nation running.

For a book that was written in the 1950's, it is incredible on how keenly it applies to today’s societies.

A good friend of mine has a tape of Rand speaking to a graduating class. I thought it was very interesting, especially when she took questions, and slammed Eisenhower for his warning about the militayry industrial complex. I suppose I am naive, but I would have thought Rand and Ike would have been cut from the same cloth.

She had balls, that's for sure.
