I think it's mostly that Apple users tend to be smug about buying inferior products at higher prices, which is a pretty obnoxious type of smugness.

I have found that with computers, people compare apples with oranges. They pay twice as much for an Apple then praise it for being faster. If they paid as much for a PC, the PC would be faster.
I do not think Apple products are all bad, or even inferior to others, but a lot of people do purchase them based on status value not because of quality for money.
What Apple does do with most of their products is control the entire product - this means they tend to be easier to use overall and be more stable. It also means less options, and higher prices.

The best thing I can say for my itouch is that it does what I expect it to do and does it quickly and effectively almost every time. Everything about it is self-explanatory. There's a reason the ipod doesn't come with an instruction manual. It is not necessary. My 5 year old can't read, but she can operate my itouch without a problem.
It does an excellent job picking up wifi and the app and itunes interfaces, both with loads and loads of free or cheap content, continue to amaze me. I don't have an iphone because I'm not interested in paying an arm and a leg for an AT&T data plan, but my itouch never leaves my pocket.
Originally posted by sh76I did list those as pluses. I was just pointing out that they come at a cost - price and choice.

An Apple made computer is likely to be more stable than a generic computer running Windows, simply because the Apple prevents you from putting in third party hardware with third party drivers and the amount of third party software you install is likely to be far less. (certainly this was the case in the past, I suspect it still is the case).
But if you need third party hardware, you have to get the generic.
Also you will pay more for the Apple for the same hardware.
You will also pay more for support.
But if you needs are specific and the Apple product supplies those needs and you are willing to pay for it, then it is a good buy.
