@kevcvs57 saidyou people are complete idiots. A major occurrence in history serves as a benchmark.
As an agnostic I do find it a bit hilarious to be living ‘in the year of some idiots lord’ isn’t their geological pinpoint of time we can count from.
AD is meaningless to anyone not raised in the Christian tradition I’d rather see a universally acceptable calendar
Do you have a better one than the life of Jesus Christ?
there is a universally accepted calendar, you just dont like where/how/when it originated. Go ahead, I would like to see your pretend calendar.
maybe you should contact AI...LOL
@mott-the-hoople said1971. Make that year 0.

@mott-the-hoople saidJesus was not born in the year 1. So the benchmark is factually wrong. Like so much else in the Christian religion ....

@shavixmir saidOnly computer nerds count "zero, one, two, three" and so on. The Gregorian calendar starts at year one, not year zero. Which means it jumps from 1 BC to 1 AD.
1971. Make that year 0.

@moonbus saidNo one said that. As records are practically non existent from that time period, estimations serve the purpose. A well know and accepted event, not timed to the exact second, provided the benchmark.

Since you dispute Jesus was born in AD1...PROVE IT.
Im not saying he was, Im asking YOU to back up your assertion.

@shavixmir said1 year +
Oh please. People.
AD 1 means 1 year after the coming of Christ.
And personally, I have no problems living in the 52.

@mott-the-hoople saidWhat on earth are you gibbering about? "Maths" and "Gods time scheme"?
now you see why I dont like liberalism…they live in s pretend world.
If you dont believe in God, you might want to think about why, with all the geniuses in maths, they still cannot figure out Gods time scheme.
Are you huffing varnish remover again? Don't do that.

Born around 5 or 6 BCE. It's you against the world now. Good luck.
@shavixmir saidDid you notice the cute convention with AD and BC? One writes AD 2023, but 2023 BC. This wasn't a universal convention, but still fairly prevalent. In contrast, CE and BCE are both written after the year number. HUGE innovation. Incredible. Accolades and free hats for all the geniuses who made it possible.
Some history (stolen as I’m too lazy to pen it myself) :
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Era
[quote]Common Era (CE) and Before the Common Era (BCE) are year notations for the Gregorian calendar (and its predecessor, the Julian calendar), the world's most widely used calendar era. Common Era and Before the Common Era are alternatives to the original Anno Domini ...[text shortened]... And no matter your religious persuation, why the hell would you do that?
Bloody well annoys me.
Perhaps someday historians will independently discover negative integers.
@soothfast saidDamn how ignorant. BC means before Christ, NO ONE knows exactly when Christ was born, Ive seen 4,5and 6 BC, the calendar seems to dispute all. . Christ was not widely known at the time. He was just born...(duh)

AD refers to the time AFTER Christs birth and is still used today, "in the year of our Lord 2023.
You seem to want it pinned down to a certain year, then go on to use the term BCE as acceptable to you..
Tell me exactly when this "common era" was?
