The rioters attacked the police to get to the Capitol and windows were smashed to gain entrance. I know of no evidence that the police allowed them to "walk right in".
It's true that the police didn't use the degree of force that was typically used against BLM protesters in many cities.

if there would be even a slim chance to keep him from running again in 2024 it's money well spent. In the likely case he isn't actually convicted he will still be remembered as the president who go impeached twice.
