Then again, you have to have a licence to organise fights (when money is involved), and fighting in the street is probably illegal... maybe they could be nicked after all.
But they didn't get payed and because they were bums they couldn't go to the police because they wuold just turn them away.

Bumfighting is:
People find a couple of bums, homeless people, and pay them a few bucks or sometimes liquor, to fight each other.

Going on this information, they were paid in one form or another
If the 'bums' couldn't go to the police because they were homeless I would find this just as damning as the original acts.
The 'bums' carried out the acts of their own free will (ignoring the argument that an alcohlic is driven to get the money or booze by his addcition and no longer has free will) therefore wouldn't be the prosecutors. Instead it would be the state that prosecuted for violation of state laws on prize fighting and public disorder.

Yes, they were prosecuted. I'd have to look up the exact charge. I rmemeber that they could only get them with a minor misdemeanor. They ended up getting ordered not to do it anymore and some community service.

The late, yet ultimately great, Bill Hicks once suggested using old folk and the terminally ill as stunt doubles. It's the only way to make the special effects more realistic.

But seriously, bum fighting sounds quite sick.

Anyone seen this ? Just saw a documentary ... really ugly.

Is it just this generation thats lost the plot ?

The best place to watch from is usually a train yard within walking distance of a "Feed The Bears" station in major cities. Once the bear has had his free meal, he usually roams about extorting money from do gooders. Then he scores his bottle and returns to the train yard. It is there that be best "bum fights" occur.

Usually over the afore mentioned bottle of gold.

The weapon of choice is the "dog". It has been tied in the sun under a box in the train yard all day and is ready to kill. So it usually exacts the first pound of flesh. The (oft times drunken) bums then stagger about with knives and guns, trying to gain mastery over the opposing bum(s).

It is quite interesting to watch. Without the "Feed The Bear" stations provided by the do-gooders, these "bum fights" would lack charm and zeal. But being well fed, they often end in death and destruction of one or more of the "bum fighters".

Question: If it is wrong to feed the bears in Yellowstone and other "natural" settings... Why do we "feed the bears" in major cities? The predator "man" is much more of a bear than a "Bear" will ever be. Meaner, tougher and smarter. Thank god, not stronger.

Anyway... (hang on a sec.... What Mable? eh?... Oh. Ok.)... I'm back. Sorry. Mable just pointed out that I'm on the wrong subject again. Sorry. 😳🙂

So many questions....

Why are Amerian homeless people called bums? Why do Americans call their bum their butt? And why do Americans go to the bathroom when they want a crap?

If it was a gang of people who persuaded them to fight (as I imagine it usually would be, people aren't generally this sadistic on their own), they could've been intimidated into doing it. Unfotunately, by accepting money for it the homeless people are implicated themselves in the eyes of the law.
