Are they political dissidents, an ethnic group?
I've not investigated.....
here's the skinny,

the Uyghurs live in Xinjiang province in the northwest of China. The 25 million people are ethnic Turcic, not Han Chinese, and have their own language. They are also a Muslim people and desirous of being free from China, as they once were. The Uyghurs once tried a revolution and Mao quickly shut them down.

And like the Mongolians, they're screwed

"But always – do not forget this, Winston – always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face – for ever."

Monsters. Some leftists in the US would love to have such control.
Winston also noticed that the line between extreme left and extreme right was to all intents and purposes non existent.
If your a US citizen your clear and present danger is coming from the extreme right that now control the Republican Party. It’ll be hilarious if they take you out whilst your fretting about BLM, Pelosi and Antifa.

Although elections are held in the country regularly, outside observers have described such elections as a sham and view the form of government as a dictatorship. The regime has been accused of human rights abuses and other crimes against humanity. However, North Korea considers itself a democracy and the regime has strongly denied such allegations.
----------- ...[text shortened]... is a democracy. My *opinion*

Kim Jong-Un's grandfather ruled North Korea until his death, and so did Kim's father who then passed down control to him. Right now, Kim's sister is next in line to rule North Korea because his son is not an adult yet.

That's "democracy" in your opinion?

From the link in the OP:

"Blindfolds, handcuffs and shackles are mandatory for any “student” being transferred between facilities or even to hospital."

Neither Russia, China, nor the U.S. should be permanent members of the UN Security council. There shouldn't be "permanent" members in the first place, but much less these three.

This issue deserves so much more attention. But then again, what can we do.

you have a point. :-) And it will always be a Kim in charge. That itself is a long story.

@Sleepyguy
SOME leftists want that power. Ok, SOME. But ALL the Trumpite zombie repubs want power ONLY and nothing else and will cause an insurrection to keep in power, they are getting ready for the NEXT coup having done the preliminary work already on Jan 6.
But since they are repubs, nothing wrong with that right?
