Had a flash of insight while deleting irritating emails this morning: our "information overload" culture is like the experience of schizophrenia.
I don't know how much you know about schizophrenia, but one of the prominent symptoms is auditory hallucinations - Voices. The voices speak to the patient and usually say derogatory or negative or bizarre or critical things. Oftentimes, patients believe that the voices are coming from outside themselves - a light, a car, a house, a tree. Patient sometimes try to plug their ears, which is a reflex, of course it doesn't work. They sometimes shout "Shut up!" Often they play loud music to try to shut the voices out - cacophony is actually better than constant negativity. Saying 'just ignore them' is almost impossible given that the voices, being in their heads, can say whatever the subject feels most emotional about.
The firehose of texts, emails, and advertising during election season makes us experience the world of the schizophrenic - constant negative, critical commentary bombarding us, playing on our emotions, that we cannot get away from.
We are quite literally driving ourselves crazy.
The affect on a human of constantly hearing negative voices is to lose contact with reality. No longer sure what is real vs generated, people start to act in bizarre ways. They develop cognitive problems. They become confused and unsure.
Is that what we are doing to ourselves: collective schizophrenia?

- shut the f..king phone off.
- switch off the TV
- stop idolising stupid celebrities
- stop taking advice from JLo, Beyonce and other stupid people
- go plant some tomatoes
- play in the park with your dog
- have a hobby
- go on a vacation to a country that is still grounded and see how they live.
You people love to invent new explanations of why you going mad.

I say STOP but they don't stop. I cannot* shut that scat off. They haven't provided me any services, they are not sponsoring any content for me, but the FCC allows them to slip and slide and change phone #'s endlessly so I cannot block them. Weak? How about the FCC for weak!
* Not asking for help. I have found ways to deal with some of it. But it takes effort. I am talking about the principle here.
You want strength? Fine. We elect Bernie Sanders and ban all political advertising. How about that? Or we ban all political ads that speak about another candidate.
Oh, you say, what about freeze peach? Well, what about my right to use my amazing pocket computer without being harassed?
Maybe the problem is we aren't being NEARLY tough enough with the big shots. Maybe it is time to take them down 300 billion pegs or so.

Its not the government or your parents.
Neither is it technology, nor is it the environment.
The problem is you. Each individual person is responsible for their life choices. People need to take responsibility for their decisions and blame themselves for when things go wrong. But many dont.

Will you feel the same when it is obvious Trump really is now a dictator which right now is a theory of what it looks like to us to be his real agenda.
I assume you think that is not on Trump's bucket list.

@sonhouse saidI don't know what you mean by him becoming a dictator. He's not going to try to stay in office past his four years. I do want him to do everything the law allows, even if he has to push the limits of normal convention, to do the things he told us he would do. I want the border closed, illegals deported, government downsized, censorship ended, and criminals in the government to be fired, prosecuted and jailed where possible.
