@shavixmir saidI take it you are a Royalist then?
I don’t campaign anything.
It’s a debate about your constitution, and I have an opinion on it.
@AThousandYoung saidChrist no.
I take it you are a Royalist then?
I think my political leanings are well known.
On the constitution: I’m pretty sure it was written with possibilities to change it over time (ammendments) built into it.
So, changing it is not really a big deal. It’s logical. If you write a law now, considering all cars must drive on the right, and eventually everyone is flying around on drones, the law has to be able to adapt.
@shavixmir saidBeing a Communist suggests you have no idea what sort of government is realistically effective. The Republic of the USA has been extraordinarily successful which is strong evidence that our Constitution is pretty good.

It has been amended so I don't see your point.

@AThousandYoung saidThe point is that republicans here are suggesting it shouldn’t be amended and that I, as a foreigner, either shouldn’t have an opinion about it, or that if I do, I’m wanting to interfere with it.

As for communism, a great many aspects in life (certainly European life) have communist roots (or are linked to it): healthcare, welfare, unions, minimum wages, etc.
As for the succes of the US: how many people are living below the poverty line? How many people are forced to work 2 jobs just to get by? How many wars have you won the last 65 years? How come your choice for president are either a megalomaniacal narccisist or a dithering old geriatric?
How do you measure your success? By the amount of labour you’re outsourced to 3rd world countries?
@shavixmir saidThe "poverty line" varies from country to country so it cannot be compared.

I don't know how you define "winning a war" but Saddam Hussein is dead, the Baathists are gone and nobody is gassing the Kurds. The USA occupied Afghanistan for 20 years, twice what the Soviets managed, and killed bin Laden during that time. If the US military left Germany tomorrow would you claim that as evidence that the USA lost WW2?
We have lots of choices for President. These two were the ones who were chosen in the end. Your claims are analogous to saying "why were there only two teams in the 2022 World Cup - Argentina and France?"
Success can be measured in many ways. One of them is having a stable Republic that has endured for over two centuries. Another would be that the USA is the most powerful country on the planet and has been for nearly a century. Our currency is extremely stable and well respected. What country would you identify as "more successful"? Let me guess - the 50 year old Kingdom of Sweden might be on your list. Am I right?

Four hundred B-17 Flying Fortress bombers of the United States Army Air Forces dropped 800 tons of K-rations during 1 to 3 May on Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. At least one B-17 crew, that of the Stork Club from the 550th squadron received battle recognition despite having no guns for their humanitarian mission, as a result of receiving fire from German flak.
Look at a Periodic Table sometime and notice the elements Americium, Californium and Berkelium, and then look into the histories of Seaborgium and Lawrencium.

I’d put the US in the same tier as the UK and various former UK colonies: extremely good for the wealthy, abysmal if you are lower middle-class / working class and a complete lack of coherent investment in infrastructure.
Although, one could argue, that the German road system isn’t as good as it should be.
@shavixmir saidYour list is a bunch of countries that are less than 100 years old and were either liberated by or defeated in battle by the USA.

@AThousandYoung saidYou can’t compare ages to each other.
Your list is a bunch of countries that are less than 100 years old and were either liberated by or defeated in battle by the USA.
France could be 230 years old, or you can argue that it’s 1200 years old.
The Netherlands is nearly 200 years old, or it’s 450 years old (give or take).
Sweden fought in the 30 years war, how the hell do you reckon that it’s 100 years old?
Etc.
As for “being saved” by the US… one could argue that the only reason the US had the ability to step up and help, was because the USSR was pounding the Nazis on the Eastern front.
And, anyways, since when is the industrial warmachine the measurement of a succesful society; or more to the point here, a succesful set of laws?
The US is now plummeting towards a constitutional crisis, with powers being extended to the executive that would make the founding fathers twist in their graves.
That’s what you should be worried about.
@shavixmir saidNo, actually the French Constitution was adopted in 1958. We're not talking about populations we're talking about Constitutions.

Since you asked me how many wars the USA had won a few posts ago.

However the fact that the USSR no longer exists kind of counters the argument that it is a successful country.

@no1marauder saidAgree
The UK had an election on Tuesday. By Friday, the head of the winning party was sworn in as Prime Minister.
The US has a ridiculously slow transition period for both Congress and the Presidency based on the long travel times needed 230+ years ago. It seems to me a bipartisan solution to this travesty would be a good idea, reducing it to say a month at most. There's no ...[text shortened]... d out of office should still be determining policy months after their electoral defeat.
Thoughts?

@shavixmir saidTwo points about your post above. Forced to work? I have never forced anyone to work. Tell us who forces someone to work. Liberal hype, a necessary phrase for your messages of communism.

Secondly, it is boring in posts that people say 'we already have some socialism'. This is telling sue and others that we all contribute to a general fund (with our payment of local and fed taxes) out of which hospitals, schools, police, social support programs for the needy, etc. are supported.
Why keep saying that? You suggest we are not a capitalist society? Whew.
@AThousandYoung saidNot all European countries have constitutions.
No, actually the French Constitution was adopted in 1958. We're not talking about populations we're talking about Constitutions.
And you were talking about how old “a country” is.
