@jj-adams saidMichele Wu is Boston's first elected female and first non-white mayor.
So having a black only Xmas party isn't?
This party was meant to be celebratory; not exclusionary.
Think of it this way: if Michele Wu had a party for only elected women would that be sexist? Not given the oppressed history of women in America and throughout the world. Same for minorities.
And keep in mind: this is in Boston....a city infamous for its history of racism.
Even though Ms. Wu seems to have had good intentions I agree that leaving out whites is not a good idea when the goal is celebrating diversity. I think she meant well but this idea was misguided.

So much for the Diversity Equity and Inclusion they are all yammering about..

@jj-adams saidLike I said, which you conveniently ignored: the party was meant to be celebratory not exclusionary.
She meant well by excluding whites.

She meant well in wanting to celebrate minorities but not inviting whites was a bad idea. Whites can be included in celebrating accomplishments of non-whites.

If a white mayor had a whites only Xmas party he'd be out of office the next day.

@vivify saidOK let's celebrate minorities:
The party was meant to celebrate minorities; it wasn't meant to trash whites. The intent was noble, the execution was wrong.
I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to pause for a moment and give thanks for the great contributions of the Black community to our society. Their peaceful and generous nature make them ideal neighbors, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture. Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people. Real estate values are fueled by the mix of African Americans into an area due to their caring and respectful nature of these communities, an example of all they have achieved through their enthusiasm for self-improvement by hard work and a self-reliant can-do nature. Without their industrious and creative drive, we would be poorer as a nation.

I personally don't think it's a good idea to exclude anyone but if the notoriously racist Boston has people like yourself in the local government, I understand why the mayor did so.
@vivify saidDot try and reason with it, it won’t thank you for taking away it’s racist outrage, it read the daily Mail in order to get angry and now you’re killing it’s buzz.
Like I said, which you conveniently ignored: the party was meant to be celebratory not exclusionary.

@boonon saidThey have to live within the same borders as racists like jj, can’t be easy
Every responder here is making EXCUSES for why this is permissible. This is what is wrong with America and the left.
The US had to have racial segregation ripped out of it like a cancer and a lot of whites like jj have still not reconciled with integration, it’s no wonder that minorities might want a moment together to celebrate how far they’ve come and what they’ve achieved
In summary jj is what’s wrong with America but he gets less significant every day

@vivify saidWhites are only 45% of Boston's population, and dropping rapidly.

It'll be just like Baltimore, Washington DC, Atlanta, etc., soon and then you won't have anything to complain about.

You recently started a thread praising the founder of the American Nazis. Why do you believe your opinions on race have any value?
