They won’t be by 2024 he’ll be every bit the bogey man of the centre and independents that Trump is.
It’s a catch 22 for the republicans, no one who comes across as reasonable can hope to get past the MAGA republicans so they have to compete with each other to be more ultra right and anti everything other than white Christian extremism than the other primary candidates.

DeSantis will have to be as extreme as Trump in order to win the primary, whoever wins the Republican primary will by definition be too extreme for moderates and independents.
