Seems like I wasn't clear enough. Let me try again.

What beliefs make some a Democrat or Republican? And are those beliefs different from what makes someone a liberal or conservative respectively?
If you are talking about what makes a politician a dem or rep, it is their thinking they can be more successful as one or the other. What makes a politician a lib or con is the same.

You are becoming more cynical.

Well, I allow for the possibility that there are politicians whose idea of success is advancing a lofty agenda. Or at least one that agrees with mine.

But there's not a single example I could cite that would not bring ridicule for my naivete.

My own cynicism is growing.

My one local saving grace from cynicism is my rep, Jackie Speier. I give her some respect for taking 5 bullets and not being scared off by it. Plus she actually shows up at parking lots for town halls.

I don't think I have ever said this about something you have said, but
that is a stupid idea!

If more do not vote means the few will elect who they want, and those
will vote for the who that will give them more. More should vote, but they
really need to open their eyes about who they are going to vote for,
with the most important question, WHY!?

"Just How Stupid Are We?: Facing the Truth About the American Voter "

I read this, the writer I believe is liberal, but it was well written and to
the point. Many of the reasons we vote have nothing to do with reality.
Some here have automatically defined all left leaning people as bad,
others all the right wing as bad. Some will automatically vote for the "R"
or the "D" as if that is the RIGHT way to do it.

Instead of looking at the paint job both parties do to each other and the
news outlets as well, we need to look at the people we are voting for
as best we can without cheers from our favorite party!

It requires effort, which means many will not, since we live in a very
instant gratification society, effort over time isn't a strong suit with most.

If you believe so, then you are very stupid.
I can see you have a lot of influence.
