@quackquack saidSometimes laws must be broken. MLK Jr, Gandhi and Mandela all deliberately broke the law.
Im not OK with blocking roads with trucks, storming capitols or looting business during a pandemic and I think that those who are trying to excuse or distinguish the left clearly have a double standard. Neither the sincerity of your belief nor your personal overestimation of the morality of your cause excuses you from obeying the laws of the land.
@athousandyoung saidWhich of those individuals looted or had people associated with their cause break into business establishments and steal things?
Sometimes laws must be broken. MLK Jr, Gandhi and Mandela all deliberately broke the law.
@quackquack saidYou said nothing excuses people from disobeying the laws of the land. Are you changing your position on that?
Which ones of them looted or had people associated with their cause break into business establishments and steal things?
Gandhi stole salt illegally from the ocean. Mandela was connected to terrorists/guerrillas.
John Brown committed armed robbery (the property in question being slaves).
@athousandyoung saidPeople cannot be permitted to unilaterally decide they are above the law.

The people who stormed the Capital feel the election was rigged and therefore all laws are invalid and need not be obeyed. Black Lives Matter feels they are not treated fairly and therefore they need obey the law of a system that oppresses them.
Anti-maskers believe Covid laws are based on false science and therefore they are merely pretexts to control society.
I'm consistent either work within the system to make change or accept that you will be punished for violating established laws.
@quackquack saidYes. I have been consistent in calling for punishing people for violating established laws.

As a left leaning individual I expect that doing so fairly and consistently will lead to the collapse of right wing protests and the magnification of left wing protests until the laws get changed in our favor.
@athousandyoung saidToo much to lose....?
It’s not a double standard it’s a question of numbers. On the one hand you have a handful of middle class people throwing a tantrum over a public health restriction and who expect not to be treated as the criminals they are.
On the other you have huge swarms of desperate, impoverished people enraged at the class warfare that has been directed at them and who very m ...[text shortened]... s to jail and we will see who keeps protesting. The truckers have too much to lose to keep this up.
Is that the same as less to gain?
I see there were more than a few automotive
related job losses losses, due to the ''Trucker Freedom Convoy,''
I also see that were a number of Confederate statues, of slavers no less, who attempted to overthrow the U.S Govt. removed
Long overdue removals, inspired by Black Lives Movement/

@athousandyoung saidActually you are showing a double standard when you ignore the abuses of left protests. The looting during a pandemic is unforgivable and un/ underpunished.

@shallow-blue saidIt can be difficult to repost the AP link because most links to AP take you to their advertising site.
@jimm619
Could you (and sonhouse, and quite a few of you) at least summarise the article, so we at least can understand what you're aiming at without
having to give these parasite sites a bit more advertising money? It would be different if you linked to the original site, but come on, Yahoo?
@quackquack saidAnd over-exaggerated by the far right.

@quackquack saidI recommend the business owners take responsibility for the fortification and defense of their businesses OH WAIT they are rich right wing pricks who live far away and would never dare defend their own property like the Rooftop Koreans did.

I don’t know if you can, but can you get an owner for Ons, that’s O-N-S Jr Market, the address is 1934 East Anaheim, and all the windows are busted out, and it’s like a free for all in here and, uh, the owner should be able to come down here and secure his business, if he wants to
@quackquack saidHow am I ignoring the abuses of left wing protests?! LOCK THEM UP!

@jimm619 saidThe article itself includes a summary:
Yahoo is a bona fide news site.
It's an Associated Press story.
I don't summarize because I don't
care to editorialize, I'm just tossing up topics
for comment....If ya' don't read it, don't comment.
Former President Donald Trump, who repeatedly called Black Lives Matter protesters “thugs” and “anarchists,” said there's “a lot of respect” for the overwhelmingly white truckers who blocked streets in the Canadian capital and shut down border crossings with the U.S. to oppose COVID-19 restrictions.
To Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, the truckers who parked bumper to bumper are “heroes” fighting for a righteous cause.
Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity sent “solidarity, love and support” to the drivers, who also defied police orders to clear Ottawa’s streets and ignored a court order forbidding them from blaring their horns.
GOP Sen. Rand Paul encouraged them to head south and “clog” streets in the U.S.
