The (rather bleedingly) obvious fact that you can never shield children completely from "bad parents" does not imply that ensuring children have access to health care is a bad idea.
Rather than citing a somewhat arcane argument, and suggesting someone "look it up", you could make the argument in at least a superficial manner, applied to the case in question. Then it could be discussed as applied to the OP.
