This idea that masks increase your risk of catching the virus has long since been discredited.
Also your link says nothing about lung infections, other than the extrapolatory conclusion that, if masks increase the risk of catching the virus, and the virus infects the lungs, then masks increase lung infections. All discredited BS.

@mott-the-hoople saidIt's a medical official in the UK, Dr. Jenny Harries. Six weeks later:

you fukin idiot!

Dr Jenny appeared on Good Morning Britain with Lorraine Kelly to speak about whether masks should be made mandatory in public to guard against the virus spreading.
On whether the public should be wearing masks and where they’ll be able to get hold of them from, she said: ‘The number one thing is we must leave our medical masks to people in the frontline because there’s clear evidence that that is beneficial. ‘For the average member of the public… it’s not quite as simple as just wearing a mask or not. The other thing is what mask are you wearing and how would you wear it?’
Should I connect the dots for you? The issue is people wearing the wrong kind of mask, or the correct mask the wrong way, or hoarding masks to a degree that creates shortages for medical personnel.
Seriously, why would this expert hold such a premium on medical personnel wearing masks if masks increased the risk of catching the virus? Think a little.

Somewhat interesting thing, South Korea alone has the ability to manufacture something like 9 million face masks a day, and is now more actively exporting them to other places.
I think we do not have to worry about panic buying negatively impacting the medical profession any longer.
I also think it is the case that it is better to ahve some mild lung infection than the Coronavirus.

@mott-the-hoople saidCircling back to your original link from March 15, Dr. Harries says this:

"What tends to happen is people will have one mask. They won't wear it all the time, they will take it off when they get home, they will put it down on a surface they haven't cleaned," she added.
Further, she added that behavioral issues could adversely put themselves at more risk of getting the infection. For instance, people go out and don't wash their hands, they touch parts of the mask or their face, and they get infected.
This is not wrong. What is wrong is the point you're trying to make: that masks are intrinsically counterproductive. Almost anything can be counterproductive if you misuse it a certain way.
Note the mention of hand washing. See the bigger picture: mask wearing is just part of it. You have to wash your hands, wash the mask occasionally, and observe other basic sterile procedure protocols, in order to get the full benefit of masks. If you have ever paid any attention to the genuine medical and health advice out there free to all, you'd understand this.

@philokalia saidThere are cases of people thinking that, if one mask is good, then wearing three or more simultaneously is even better. Not smart, as that can indeed cause oxygen deprivation, headaches, mental impairment, and perhaps worse things longer term.

@soothfast saidLOL, yes, I had heard one person talk about how they do that. It was one of the more ridiculous statements that I had seen!

Data shows areas where masks are mandatory the infection rate is highest.
Show me the data where masks have prevented virus spread.
@Mott-The-Hoople
You can forget about wearing a mask. Just stay at least 100 yards downwind of me.
