@Earl-of-Trumps
Yeah, those accursed democrats, wanting slaves right now, and we will pay top dollar for them too.
@wajoma saidThe skills slaves were forced to learn in no way served the interests of the slaves; the skills slaves were forced to learn served only the interests of their owners. A person with a skill he could not choose whom it served had no advantage out of it for himself. They’d have been much happier staying in Africa and using their hunting skills.
The motivation of those doing the teaching of the skill is not the issue, it doesn't measure anything. Teachers, tutors, university professors are all there primarily for their own benefit.
A person with a skill has an advantage over a person without a skill, it is a benefit to have a skill, that's all I was saying, nothing about how cushy it was, that's not whitewashing anything, that's just stating a fact.
@Wajoma
If you are a slave, you are a slave for life, so how is that skill going to be useful? One skill it was illegal to give was education, can't be taught to read or write. That would have been a better skill than using a field plow but the downsides were horrible, like a child born to a slave is owned by the owner of the slave and can sell it off if they wished and no amount of pleading would change that, or the rapes or torture given to slaves so the idea of learning a skill is just so much bullshyte. It's not like ok now you have a skill, you are free to go. The whole fukking civil war was fought over that and even after the civil war the supposedly newly freed slaves didn't have anywhere to go.
