God Bless the USA.

For you non-US citizens, this is a common statement used in a patriotic way here in the US. I saw someone post it in response to the Obama victory.

My question is, why would anyone still use it? It is a statement from an era past. It is a statement from a time when it was common practice for government areas to display Christian symbols and to use the Bible as a source of moral authority.

For those who believe that the US should be godless in it's application of morality, why would you make such a statement. For those who believe that a seperation of church and state is in the Constitution and it means that we should have a 'Godless Society' (sure you can have your personal religious beliefs, but Societal morality should be humanistic in origin and reject the Bible) why make such a statement?

It seems to me that for those who embrace this modern view of US society, would not a better motto be "There is no God in the USA" or "Godless USA"?

You who embrace the modern concept of separation of church and state, but still want to say "Gold Bless the USA", you are a hypocrite. You who still hold on to your private Christian beliefs, go back and read your Bible and ask yourself if God actually blesses nations that reject Him.

You do realize that not everybody who believes in God believes in: A) A Christian one; or B) Has a literal interpretation of the Bible?

I see nothing even remotely hypocritical for those who wish to believe in a God to hope she extends her blessings to the people in the United States.

There is no God. All religion is man made in order to control the masses.
Religion has lost credibility all over the world. Anyone who believes in any form of religion is deluded. The only God America has is the Almighty Dollar. They truly
don't believe in anything else.

Yah, I suppose that there is a very small minority of people who totally reject the Bible, but want to claim to be Christian. Most people like that simply reject the idea of God all together. People like that are a step behind in their evolution.

You are quite deluded if you actually believe that.

If you look at the total population, they are a small group. Perhaps is a large sub group of the Christian community, but their evolution will lead to the rejection of the title Christian and they can evolve into whatever they see fit to call themselves.

But then, titles are really irrelevant. I can call myself a liberal, hold conservative beliefs, but you have to accept that I'm a liberal since I decide to call myself a liberal. Who are you to say that I'm not a liberal.

People like you are real whack jobs.

You belong to a fundamentalist fringe group. Most Christians are Roman Catholics who do not literally interpret the Bible as you do; that does not mean they "totally reject the Bible" as you ridiculously claim. From your postings in Spirituality, you are even a fringe among American Protestants.

Most people believe in some sort of God. The overwhelming number who do reject your theology. Deal with it.

I see.

Truely you deserve the country you will receive and your just rewards!

Wow, didn't know how really screwed up some people can be, but I suppose I should have expected this from you. You are a piece of work. The sad part is, this is how you see things.

Is that supposed to be some refutation of the facts I presented? If so, it's a miserable failure even by your low Bible thumping standards.

Your desert god cannot banish the wrath of Taranis! Begone with your curses. Taranis rides his chariot over the Atlantic where he rules!

Taranis avoids Vegas, though, on account of the tab he left running at Caesars Palace.

Not a curse, things will be as they will be. I just find it hypocritical for someone to think it is right to exclaim God Bless the USA where I can hear it if they believe in a Godless public society. From their point of view, their religious views should be their own personal views, not for public consumption.

I'm just pointing out how hypocritical these people are.

Jupiter rules the storms over Caesars Palace and the desert god is powerful out there in the rural regions. I don't know who the indigenous storm lord is. Huitzilopotchtli the solar hummingbird of bloody death by left handed people or something is the desert god before the god of the book took over.

Mercury probably owns the casino itself though.

Can people say "Bless you" after someone sneezes without incurring your wrath?
