God Bless the USA.
For you non-US citizens, this is a common statement used in a patriotic way here in the US. I saw someone post it in response to the Obama victory.
My question is, why would anyone still use it? It is a statement from an era past. It is a statement from a time when it was common practice for government areas to display Christian symbols and to use the Bible as a source of moral authority.
For those who believe that the US should be godless in it's application of morality, why would you make such a statement. For those who believe that a seperation of church and state is in the Constitution and it means that we should have a 'Godless Society' (sure you can have your personal religious beliefs, but Societal morality should be humanistic in origin and reject the Bible) why make such a statement?
It seems to me that for those who embrace this modern view of US society, would not a better motto be "There is no God in the USA" or "Godless USA"?
You who embrace the modern concept of separation of church and state, but still want to say "Gold Bless the USA", you are a hypocrite. You who still hold on to your private Christian beliefs, go back and read your Bible and ask yourself if God actually blesses nations that reject Him.
