@vivify saidThey are tethered to the govt, they have some sort of contact everyday with mother government......so, to a strict conservative like myself, the country is basically socialist, where the socialists are supporting those living at behest of the government . Those people in the food line, living under socialism, are not actually socialists, the socialists are.
If they were struggling, poverty-stricken countries, conservatives would giddily call them socialist.

@averagejoe1 saidWell, here is what one Finn has to say about living under a ‘nanny state’ :
Hey!! I will not be chided!
Seriously, with an open mind, I think you are in effect, implying that living in countries where the citizens are ‘tethered’, to govt is the best way ? Staying a little close to the nannny’s safety net giving a sense of having the oh-so-important coziness and happiness?
Would those citizens may be a little happier with a sense of acc ...[text shortened]...
You know what I’m saying. Not dependent. That would be AverageJoe. Any one else,,,,or just me?

They chose to, it wasn’t imposed on them, and they are free to emigrate if they don’t like it.

Finland was ranked happiest country in the world for fourth year in a row.
Interestingly, this came as a surprise to many Finns, saying:
"I guess we are ranked the happiest country in the world because all the depressed ones have already killed themselves."
@moonbus saidMy main thought? We have about $4T in revenues, Your pitiful old man Biden has a $6T budget, some of which pays college loans off. There is a list of other waste, but my point is, we do not have trust, confidence, in our government, our president.
The thing is that they have confidence in their govt not to squander the taxes levied, and confidence in their fellow citizens not to bilk the system for undeserved ‘free stuff’ as you call it. The system clearly works there. Of course, neither condition is met in the USA. There is a large segment of the population which harbors a visceral distrust of govt., and there is a large segment of the population which is trapped in working-poverty.
So, no comparison. Maybe we should go like Finland and Romania etc, and people like me just suck it up, just stop what we are about. Damn.
I think I will cash out and fire all my many employees. They can then nurture their confidence in what is left......goverment. Like Zahalnzi, et al. Brrrrrrrr

@averagejoe1 saidThen it’s a good thing to have open borders, in the direction of out, so people who don’t like where they live can emigrate.
